Should Women Weight Train?

Yes, I encourage you to!  There are so many benefits you gain from weight training.  You will increase your strength, lose body fat, decrease your risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, back pain and arthritis.  But so many women I talk to are afraid to weight train.  Some are intimidated just to walk into the weight room.  Others don't know how to weight train.  Most women are afraid they will bulk up from weight training.

If you are afraid to weight train due to intimidation or because you don't know how, all you need to do is talk to a trainer.  A trainer will show you what to do in the weight room.  Once you know some exercises and you have a program to follow, you will feel so much more comfortable and confident about weight training and yourself.  If you are afraid to weight train because you don't want to bulk up, then you need to know that women have 10 to 30 times less of the hormones that cause muscle hypertrophy (bulk).  It's difficult and close to impossible for most women to bulk up.  Instead of bulk, you'll gain muscle tone and definition.  The more lean muscle you gain, the higher your resting metabolism, which means you burn more calories all day long!

So give weight training a try.  I'm certain that you won't be sorry you did.  You'll feel better, look better and be stronger.  If you need some guidance about how to begin a weight training program, talk to me or any one of our trainers and together we will design a program that is right for YOU!
